유치원이라는 프로그램은 그 자체로 입면디자인의 자유도를 높히는 큰 근거가 되었습니다. 유치원 건물은 아이들이 공원에서, 또 도로에서 어쩌면 건너편 아파트에서도 볼때 다른 건물과 사뭇다른 생각과 기분을 느끼게 해야할 것입니다. 발산 유치원은 건물에게 적용되는 통념을 벗어나는 디자인을 시도하였습니다. 기둥, 거더, 슬라브 천장마감 등 수많은 재료들의 조합으로 만들어지는 ’건물‘에 단순한 하나의 재료가 그 건물스케일로 통과하는, 그 어색한 모습이 되려 재미가 되고 상상력의 방아쇠 역할을 하게 디자인하고 싶었습니다. 그렇게 만들어진게 4개의 곡선이 하나의 오두막 집을 케익 자르듯 통과해 벌려놓은 형태이죠. 아이들이 야외에서 건물의 대략적인 형태를 인식하고 공간 안에 들어서면 밖에서 보았던 크고 하얀 벽들이 방들을 구획하며 바깥으로 뻗쳐나가는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 또한 하나의 건물임을 암시하는 지붕 패턴을 실내로도 끌어와 자신이 있는 그곳이 어떤 곳인지 머리 속에 떠올리기도 쉬울 것 입니다. 이런 특징들을 아이들이 느끼고 떠올리며 유치원에 대한 애정이 생겼으면 좋겠습니다.
The kindergarten program itself has been a huge ground for heightened freedom of riding design. The kindergarten building should make children feel different thoughts and feelings when they see it in the park, and maybe in the apartments across the street. Balsan Kindergarten has tried to design something that goes beyond the norm. I wanted to design a “building” made from a combination of many materials such as columns, girder, and slab ceiling finishes so that a simple material would pass through the scale of the building to make it fun and act as a trigger for imagination. It’s made out of four curves that cut through a single cottage and spread out like a cake. When the children enter the space after they recognize the rough shape of the building, they see the big white walls that they have seen outside dividing the rooms. It would also be easy to bring a roof pattern that implies a building indoors and get in their heads what it is like to be where they are. I want them to feel and remember these characteristics and develop a love for kindergarten.
Program
처음으로 아이들이 집에서 떨어져 지내는 장소인 만큼, 유치원에 들어섰을 때 아이들을 반갑게 맞이해주고 싶었다. 정문을 지나 신나게 뛰어갈 수 있고, 부모님을 기다리며 친구들과 마음껏 뛰놀 수 있는, 자그마한 마당을 유치원 입구 앞에 마련했다. 메인 마당과 동일하게 원형으로 만들어, 아이들에게 ‘동그란 마당’에서 뛰어놀았던 추억을 만들어주고자 했다.
유치원 로비를 지나면 육각형 형태로 탁 트인 메인 홀을 마주한다. 자유롭게 놀고, 쉴 수 있는 실내 공간을 마당 옆에 배치하여 언제든지 마당으로 뛰어나갈 수 있도록 하였다. 실외 놀이 마당은 원형으로 구획하고, 실내 공간인 로비, 도서관, 교실은 육각형의 공간으로 평면을 구획했다. 화장실 또한 육각형을 기본으로 한 다각형 형태로 구획하여 실내 공간의 통일성을 주었다. 가구 역시 사다리꼴과 곡선을 각 공간의 용도에 적합하게 배치했다.
As it is the first place where children stay away from home, I wanted to welcome them when they entered kindergarten. A small yard has been set up in front of the entrance of the kindergarten, where you can run through the main gate with excitement and play with your friends while waiting for your parents. I made the same circular shape as the main yard and make memories of running around in the ’round yard’ for children.
After passing through the lobby of the kindergarten, you will face the open main hall in a hexagonal shape. A space where you can play and relax indoors is placed next to the main yard so that you can run out to the yard at any time. The outdoor play yard is arranged into a circular shape, and the lobby, library, and classroom, which are indoor spaces, are divided into hexagonal spaces. The bathroom was also arranged into a polygonal shape based on a hexagon to give the unity of the indoor space. The furniture has trapezoidal and curved shapes to suit the use of each space.
